Bruce 'Loopy' Lewin (long time Wellington speedway driver)
If you ever wondered how 37w Modified driver Bruce Lewin earned the nickname 'Loopy' then you will
find the answer further down this page

Bruce 'Loopy' Lewin says :
Top turn 1st lap: B-grade went for the gap, it closed took 3 car's with me , rolled one , fenced another .
Note: bottom of railway iron through sump gaurd into sump of 3.8 Jaguar engine and the top of railway iron embedded
in top of roll cage.
Next day found wire rope clamp embedded in roll bar beside head. From the night on have been called LOOPY LEWIN.
All was not lost went out and won consolation races of the back ,
A- grade here we come, then 1 meeting later into the Wellington team .
I think it was the 3rd year of Te Marua opening.

Bruce 'Loopy' Lewin says :
That's me tipping Kenny Richardson over pit corner Rotorua .
It was a teams race, finished race holding motor forward with left foot ( broken rear wire rope.)
This was when the pit's were up the top end and you went out under the bridge.
Next time I raced there was in the mod and won the big race of the Easter meet , led all the way except I got passed by
Berty(Roger Bertram) but got the lead back again less than a lap later.
